Through various projects, Juvenis works to offer children and young people alternatives to the justice system, creating multiple pathways to help them disengage from risk factors and build healthier, more fulfilling lives.
Diversionary support
Our community-led initiative focuses on early intervention, supporting children and young people who are at risk of involvement in criminal or violent behaviour. The holistic and trauma-informed program redirects these young people from formal criminal justice processes and towards supportive intervention.
We know that Black young men often face intersecting issues like mental health issues, substance abuse, family dysfunction, socio-economic disadvantage and more. Guided by this understanding, this program offers alternatives to arrest, including restorative justice practices, access to mentors, skills development, sport and creative outlets, and more.
This project empowers young people to make better choices and find success within their communities, through mentoring, positive activities, education and employment support.
Working closely with families and other crucial stakeholders, we aim to address the root causes of these young people’s vulnerabilities. With this collaborative approach, Juvenis wants to ensure that no child or young person is left behind and that support is available when it is needed most.

At Juvenis, we know that reconnecting children and young people with their communities is fundamental to addressing the underlying causes of their behaviour.
Poverty, trauma, peer pressure, and educational disadvantage are just a few of the issues these young people have to navigate. Addressing these sits at the heart of the Turnaround programme, which aims to equip young people with the tools for turning their lives around. Through rehabilitation, early intervention, community-based support, and empowerment, this model aims to repair harm and create long-term positive change.
