SAFE Steps (Lambeth SAFE Taskforce)

A community-led initiative commissioned by the Lambeth Council, the Lambeth SAFE Taskforce’s mission is to create a safe, supportive environment where children and young people can take positive control of their lives and futures.

The SAFE framework – Safe, Achieve, Fulfil and Empower – guides the Taskforce’s multi-agency approach with local authorities, youth organisations, education providers and more.

Our partners are: Marcus Lipton Community Enterprise, Your Story.

Creating physically and emotionally stable environments where young people can thrive is vital. Early intervention, safe spaces for support, and family and housing support are necessary to aid young people at risk of violence, gang involvement and exploitation.

Supporting young people with the tools and opportunities to achieve their academic and career goals is core to this pillar. To successfully transition into the workplace, this program provides tutoring, mentoring and homework clubs, vocational training and apprenticeships, as well as exam support.

We believe it is crucial to guide young Black men and boys in exploring who they are, what they care about, and how they want to contribute to the world. This is developed through workshops, peer-led discussions and mentorship around self-identity, positive masculinity and emotional literacy. Challenging harmful norms is further explored through mental health support and resilience training programs, alongside arts and media projects, talent showcases and youth-led events.

Young Black men and boys must feel empowered to make decisions and impact their world and we do this through offering leadership training and supporting youth advocacy programs, creating youth-led community projects and facilitating conflict resolution training.
